For
your newsgroups file:
alt.autos.gm.olds-cutlass For Olds Cutlass and 442 enthusiasts.
Justification
of Readership:
Oldsmobile's Cutlass and Cutlass Supreme (and the high-performance version 442) is one the
the top-selling and longer-running automobile model lines of all time. Literally millions
of these cars are on the road at any time, and car enthusiasts are increasingly turning to
these cars as an alternative to the over-priced exotic sports/luxury cars being currently
produced. This newsgroup will give the millions of enthusiasts worldwide an opportunity to
learn more about their cars, exchange their views, meet other fans on different corners of
the globe, find parts for their restorations, and it will certainly prove to be very
efficient in announcing any Cutlass updates, eg: events, car-show dates, fan clubs or
promoting newly-created topical (Oldsmobile/Cutlass/F-85/442) homepages.
Charter:
This newsgroup
will be for people who would like to talk, learn or announce anything about the Oldsmobile
Cutlass and 442. However, any specifically Oldsmobile-related or generally
automotive-related discussion will be considered on-topic, if they might pertain to
Oldsmobile Cutlass and 442 specifically, or Oldsmobile in general. Topics include, but are
not limited to:owning a Oldsmobile/Cutlass/442, selection, purchasing, maintenance,
insurance, operating costs, operating hints and tips, racing and high-performance, parts
sources and availability, costs, etc. for Oldsmobile-related restoration services and
spare parts, the supplying of up-to-date information on current projects and allow debate
and discussion on these projects and their merits. It gives those undertaking restoration
a place for requesting historical details and information. The focus of the group is for
the sharing of ideas via discussion and the intent is not be as a marketplace for selling
or buying products, so private for-sale posts are not to be posted more than one per month
from one sender or about the same items.

The posting of
SPAM is prohibited.(as defined by current usenet standards, see; http://www.uiuc.edu/ph/www/tskirvin/faqs/spam.html
or as defined by sdnet.* policy see; http://rohan.sdsu.edu/staff/wk/w/spamp.html)
-
The posting of
off-topic material is prohibited.
-
Cross-posting
between related newsgroups is strongly discouraged.
-
Cross-posting to
non-related newsgroups is strictly prohibited.
-
Binary posts are
limited to one per person per 24-hour period, not to exceed 100K in size. These
restrictions are being implemented for the benefit of our offline readers, to limit their
download time for group messages. Multiple or large file pics should either be put onto a
web page or posted in alt.binaries.pictures.autos and then referenced to in a post to
alt.autos.gm.olds-cutlass. In the event of someone abusing this policy with flooding or
off-topic binaries, they will be reported to their ISP's with the proper info. If, in the
course of the evolution of this newsgroup, the number of binary posts gets too numerous,
this policy may be subject to revision, up to and including zero tolerance.
-
Commercial
advertising is generally not allowed, except: Where someone specially asks for a product
recommendation, or a product recommendation may be appropriate for the topic, a response
for a particular commercial product, without hype or "salesmanship" may be
given.
In addition to
the preceding rules, the following posting guidelines are suggested:
-
No personal
attacks or insults. Avoid argumentative debates. (There's no reason we can't all get
along, right?)
-
Responses should
concentrate on the issues presented.
-
No private
discussions. Take private discussions to e-mail. If you have a bone to pick with someone,
take it to email. When in doubt, use e-mail.
-
Edit responses
to avoid unnecessary inclusions of earlier postings. --Edit subject lines as necessary to
remain consistent with the topic and accurate.
-
Support factual
statements with your sources. If you cannot recall the source, then say so. Do not imply
authority which you cannot actually support.
The following are unacceptable:
1) Bashing
(defined as posts or portions of posts that verbally attack others in an insulting or
malicious manner to an extent that would reasonably be considered libelous or slanderous)
2) Flames
(defined as inflammatory posts or portions of posts whose primary purpose is to induce an
intense emotional response)
3) Trolls
(Trolls are defined as posts that do not have substance to their content, primarily meant
to incite disruptive threads or distract posters from the main intent of the newsgroup.)
4) Commercial
and money-making posts (posts whose primary purpose is to solicit a benefit for the
poster. This would include, but is not limited to, advertisements of businesses, posts
advertising the availability of goods and/or services for sale through another medium,
promotion of business opportunities, money-making schemes, and chain letters. Simply
listing a business name, address, phone number, URL, etc. in one's signature is not
considered commercial use of the newsgroup. However, signatures that are in fact
advertisements, or which solicit readers to patronize a for-profit venture or visit a
commercial web site fall under the definition of commercial or money- making posts.)
5)
Profanity/racial slurs - Posters should view a.a.gm.o-c as polite mixed company and watch
their language accordingly. Only a short list of words will be disallowed. Nevertheless,
posters to a.a.gm.o-c are advised and encouraged to use the same standards that apply in
the Sunday comics. Specifically, changing all letters in profanity to special characters
like !@#$% . However, when quoting material such as scanner bites, interviews etc.., the
first letter of the word may be left in place so that readers can deduce what was actually
said.
6) Crossposts
7) Posts
without a respondable e-mail address. Addresses with spam-blocking included (i.e. myemailNOSPAM@myisp.com) are preferred. However,
we understand you don't want to post your address for the spam bots to grab, so why not
consider getting a throw-away e-mail account at the many free online services, like
HotMail, NetAddress, or Yahoo! specifically for things like this.
8) Quotes of
more than a few lines of copyrighted material - Quoting a line or two of copyrighted
material is not against the law. However, quoting entire articles is a copyright violation
(unless the poster has permission from the copyright holder). If articles are available on
the web, a short summary of the article with a URL is the accepted method of posting.
Proper credit must be given to all copyrighted material.
9) No MIME/HTML
posts, and in particular any posting using a content-encoding other than 7-bit, 8-bit or
quoted-printable. Many users reading Usenet do not use a web browser.
While examples
are given wherever possible, it is impossible to anticipate every attempt at finding a
loophole. Therefore, the spirit of all the rules should be followed, as opposed to looking
for leaks and loopholes. For example, strange spellings or formats of profanity would
still be considered profanity. Posters will be treated like responsible adults and
expected to act accordingly.
