Updates Log

NOTE: This page is actually more for my own amusement, just as a way of keeping track of how much time I have invested into putting this MPC together. I didn't keep track of the time invested for the first three days, but I'd estimate 30 hours prior to the first entry in this log.

Dec. 18, 2010 - MPC Online started on December 15, 2010. I received the manual several days prior, and began using OCR software to scan the text listings pages. I got the Group 0.000 text listings scanned and converted to HTML and started constructing pages. I spent yesterday putting together the site graphics to make it more visually appealing, and finished that part today. I then started scanning the Group 1.000 listings. Got the first page (Pages 17-18) done early today.

It's now exactly 9PM, and I'm getting started on Page 2 (Pages 19-20).
9:10 PM - Output Page 19 from OCR to HTML
9:21 PM - Output Page 20 from OCR to HTML
9:46 PM - Combined pages into single-page HTML. Page 2 is completed.
11:09 PM - Page 3 is completed
12:00 MIDNITE: Page 4 is completed.
12:50 AM - Page 5 is completed, which is the last text listing page for Group 1.000.
1:05 AM - Started scanning illustrations for Group 0.000
2:21 AM - Got Illustration 2 and 3 done, and 4 is 80% done. Going to bed.
2:34 AM - Son got sick, had to get back up to clean up the mess.
3:33 AM - Finally going back to bed. Might get 3 hours sleep before the other kids get up.

Dec. 19, 2010 - 3 PM Saturday - Worked on and off through-out the morning and early afternoon scanning tables and data from the Illustration pages. Over the last 5 hours I've probably invested another 3 hours into this project.
12:15 AM - I've been working since 8PM, finished up the illustration pages for Group 0.000 and have the first 21(of 28) of Group 1.000 illustration pages finished up, except for some required linking on some of the pages. However, I can't create these links yet, as they need to link to pages not yet constructed.

Dec. 20, 2010 - Got two more illustration pages done, Gp. 1.000 Ill. 26 and 27.

Dec. 21, 2010 - Got the final five Illustration pages for Group 1.000 done. This means this Group is now completed!

Dec. 22, 2010 - Got seven more pages done this evening...Group 2 Starting Motors (3 pages and Index) and the Index + first three pages of the Group 2 Delcotron group.

Dec. 23, 2010 - Taking a vacation day (pulled a muscle in my neck yesterday afternoon).
9:42AM - Got started on Delcotron Illustration Page 5
12:09PM - Finished Group 2 Delcotron section (8 additional pages). Starting on Group 2 Distributor section.
3:01PM - Finished the Group 2 Distributor section.
4:48PM - Finished the first two pages of the Group 2 text section. Taking a break now.
10:06PM - Back to work...
10:53PM - Page 3 of text for Group 2 finished.
12:59PM - Pages 4 and 5 of Group 2 text finished.
2:09AM - Page 6 of Group 2 text finished. Calling it quits for the night.

Dec. 24, 2010 - Worked off and on all day. Got the final four text pages done for Group 2, for a total of ten. Also got the first fourteen illustration pages done for Group 2.

Dec. 25, 2010 - 8:30 PM - MERRY CHRISTMAS! I obviously didn't get much done earlier today, with today being Christmas and me having four young children, but now that they're in bed, I'm back to work.
10:10PM - GROUP 2 ILLUSTRATION pages are done! Well, except for linking to some text pages that aren't yet constructed. OK, so they're 99.8% done. Now getting started on the Group 3 text pages.
11:48PM - Group 3 Page 1 text page completed.
12:43AM - Group 3 Page 2 text page completed.
1:50AM - Group 3 Page 3 text page completed.

Dec. 26, 2010 - Worked off and on all day on scanning the remaining Group 3.000 text pages. Then got started at 8:30PM getting the pages formatted, finished all these text pages at 10:52PM. Getting started on Group 3.000 illustration pages.

I've got 70 hours invested into this so far.

Dec. 27, 2010 - 8:57PM - Getting back to work.
9:29PM - Got Group 3 Illustrations 2 and 3 done. Decided to take a night off.

Dec. 29, 2010 - 9:30PM - Getting started on Illustration 4 for Group 3.000. Got all illustration pages for Group 3 completed.

Dec. 30, 2010 - Got all the text listing pages for Group 4.000 ST finished.

Dec. 31. 2010 - Spent about 3 hours over the afternoon getting the first 8 text pages of Group 4.000 AT scanned, only to find out later that they weren't useable, so I had to start over. (Should've checked 'em as I scanned 'em!) I'm not including this three hours in the overall total.

Jan. 1, 2011 (or 1/1/11) - HAPPY NEW YEAR! - 11:30AM - Got Page 2 of Group 4.000 AT text pages done. Decided to work for a while on the Numerical Index pages. Got the first one done.
2:27PM - Starting on Numerical Index Page 2
4:05pm - Numerical Index Page 2 completed. Man...1.5 hours just for that page...and there's a total of FORTY to do! This is definitely gonna take a while.
4:55PM - Starting on Numerical Index Page 3.
6:12PM - Finished Numerical Index Page 3.
6:30PM - Starting on Numerical Index Page 4.
7:45PM - Finished Numerical Index Page 4.

Got started on the Alphabetical Listings (with Page A) and constructed the "How To" page.

Jan. 2, 2011 - Got the Alphabetical pages B thru O done today, as well as a few other tidbits here and there.

Jan. 3, 2011 - Got Alphabetical page P done.

Jan. 4, 2011 - Got Alphabetical page R done.

Jan. 5, 2011 - 8:30PM - Starting with Alphabetical page S.
10:50AM - Finished up with the Alphabetical pages (S thru Z)!
1:07AM - Got Text Pages 3 and 4 of Section 4.000 AT done.

Jan. 6, 2011 - 1:57PM - Got Text Pages 5 and 6 of Group 4.000 AT done.
5:45PM - Got Text Page 7 of Section 4.000 AT done.

At the moment, this online MPC has 178 pages!

8:25PM - Got Text Page 8 of Group 4.000 AT done.
10:09PM - Got Text Pages 9 and 10 of Group 4.000 AT done.

Jan. 7, 2011 - 6:55PM - Just finished the text listings for Group 4.000 AT, for 11 pages total.

Also, this MPC was officially released to the public, with announcements made to two forums and the Olds Mailing List.

10:01PM - Finished all thirteen Illustration pages for Group 4.000 ST.
10:35PM - Getting started on Group 4.000 AT illustration pages.
10:53PM - Got Group 4.000 Illustration 1 finished.
11:45PM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustrations 2 thru 5 finished.

Jan. 8, 2011 - 9:30AM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustrations 7 and 8 finished.
1:20PM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustrations 10 and 12 finished.
2:45PM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustrations 14 and 15 finished.
4:22PM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustrations 17, 18 and 19 finished.
6:12PM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustration 20 finished.
8:41PM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustration 23 finished.
9:05PM - Got Group 4.000 AT Illustration 24 finished.

This completes all the Illustration pages for Groups 4.000 ST and 4.000 AT. Now I'll be getting started on Group 4.500 (Brakes).

Jan. 9, 2011 - 12:19AM - Finished Group 4.500 BC text listing page 1.
1:29AM - Finished Group 4.500 BC text listing page 2.  (Yeah, OVER an hour...a LOT of details!)
9:01PM - Worked off/on all day scanning the remaining text pages for Group 4.500 BC, as well as the Group 5.000 text pages. Am now getting started getting them converted to HTML.
10:22PM - Got all text listing pages for Group 4.500 BC completed. Getting started converting Group 5.000 (Brakes / Axles) text listing pages to HTML.
12:04AM - Got the first three text pages for Group 5.000 done.

Jan. 10, 2011 - Got Page 4 of the text pages for Group 5.000 done, as well as all the text pages scanned for Group 6.

Jan. 11, 2011 - (The date today is 1/11/11!)
Got Group 5.000 text pages 5 and 6 completed....the text pages for this Group are now done.
Did a little proof-reading.
Got started on Group 6.000 Page 1 text.

Jan. 12, 2011 - 8:07PM - Got Group 6.000 Page 1 text completed.
8:35PM - Got Group 6.000 Page 2 text completed.
9:03PM - Got Group 6.000 Page 3 text completed.
9:29PM - Got Group 6.000 Page 4 text completed.
9:55PM - Got Group 6.000 Page 5 text completed.
10:34PM - Got all Group 6.00 pages linked together. Posting....

11:00PM - Getting started on Illustration pages for Group 4.500 BC.
11:41PM - Finished Group 4.500 BC Illustration pages 1, 2 and 3.
12:19PM - Finished Group 4.500 BC Illustration pages 4, 5 and 6. Calling it a night.

Jan. 13, 2011 - Finished the Group 4.500 Illustration pages, and got 15 of the 18 Illustration pages for Group 5 done. I also got the text pages scanned for Groups 6, 7, 8 and most of 9. I put in a total of TEN hours today on this thing!

Jan. 14. 2011 - Finished up the remaining three Group 5 Illustration pages.

Jan. 15, 2011 - Finished all the illustration pages for Group 6.
Finished all the text pages for Group 7.
Finished Group 8 Page 1 text.

Jan. 16, 2011 - Finished Group 8 text pages (2 thru 6), as well as all text pages for Group 9

Jan. 17, 2011 - Finished all Group 7 Illustration pages.

Jan. 18, 2011 - Finished all Group 8 Illustration pages.

Jan. 19, 2011 - Got the first nine illustration pages for Group 9 completed.

Jan. 20, 2011 - Finished the remaining eighteen Illustration pages for Group 9.

Jan. 21, 2011 - Finished all twenty-four Illustration pages for Groups 10 and 11.
Got the first four text listing pages for Group 10 done.

Jan. 22, 2011 - Got text listing pages 5 thru 9 of Group 10 done.
Got started on the Model Info page.

Jan. 23, 2011 - Finished up the Model Info and Trim Charts pages.

Jan. 24, 2011 - Finished up text listing pages 10 and 11 of Group 10. (Six more pages to go for this group...yep, it's a big one!)

Jan. 25, 2011 - Completed Group 10 text listing pages 12, 13, 14 and 15.

Jan. 26, 2011 - FINALLY finished the last couple text listing pages of Group 10 (pages 16 and 17)!
Also posted Page 5 of the Numerical Listings.

Jan. 27, 2011 - Got text listing pages 1, 2 and 3 done for Group 11.

Jan. 28, 2011 - Finished text listing pages 4 thru 9 for Group 11, completing this group.

Jan. 29, 2011 - Scanned all 33 MPC pages which cover the text listings for Group 12 and will be combined into 16 HTML pages. Got the first 5 HTML text listing pages done for Group 12.

At the moment, this online MPC consists of 414 HTML pages!

Created links on most of the items listed on the Alphabetical Listing - A page. (Some pages that need linked to are not yet created.)

Jan. 30, 2011 - Got Text Listing pages 6, 7, 8 and 9 for Group 12 done. Also, scanned all Text Listing pages for Group 13 and a few for Group 14.

Jan. 31, 2011 - Got started with the necessary Group Number links on Alphabetical Listing - B.

Feb. 2, 2011 - Took a day off from this MPC yesterday. This evening I finished off Alphabetical Listing - B, except for links to pages not yet constructed. Also got Text Listing pages 10 and 11 for Group 12 finished.

Feb. 3, 2011 - FINALLY finished up the text listing pages for Group 12...sixteen pages in all.
Got all thirteen Illustration pages for Group 12 completed.
Got all four Text Listing pages done for Group 13.
Scanned another six Text Listing pages for Group 14.

Feb. 4, 2011 - Got started on the Text Listing HTML pages for Group 14, got the first seven (of 25) completed. Also got the next twelve print pages scanned.

Feb. 5, 2011 - Got five more print pages scanned (Group 14 Text Listings).

Feb. 6, 2011 - Got six more print pages scanned (Group 14 Text Listings).

Feb. 7, 2011 - Scanned the remaining Group 14 Text Listing pages. This makes a total of 49 print pages for this Group that had to be scanned. Got Text Listing pages 8, 9 and 10 completed.

Feb. 8, 2011 - Got Text Listing pages 11 and 12 done.

Feb. 9, 2011 - Got Text Listing pages 13 thru 16 done for Group 14.

Feb. 10, 2011 - Got Text Listing pages 17 thru 19 done for Group 14.

Feb. 11, 2011 - Got Text Listing pages 20 and 21 done for Group 14. Also scanned 19 print pages for Group 15.

Feb. 12, 2011 - I FINALLY finished up and posted the Text Listing pages for Group 14...a total of 25 HTML pages!
Also got the first five Group 14 Illustration pages completed.

Feb. 13, 2011 - I finished up the Group 14 Illustration pages...which brings us to a milestone in this project:

ALL ORIGINAL MPC ILLUSTRATIONS ARE NOW COMPLETE!

Well....kinda sorta. The illustration groups as originally published in this MPC are complete. There will be several add-on illustration sections to be added in the very near future. These add-ons were either a separate publication (as in the case of Group 3.725 - Rochester Carburetor Chart Group) or were compiled from other sources and simply included here as 'bonus' sections (as in the case of the Exterior Moulding Section).

I'm now getting started on the fifteen pages which will comprise the Group 15.000 Text Listings, which is the final Text Listing of this MPC.

Feb. 19, 2011 - I took a few days off from this MPC after wiping out on the winter ice and banging my head pretty good. I believe I got a mild concussion, I've had a headache for a few days, and I pulled all my neck muscles. I'm back to about 90% now though, and decided to get some more work done.

I got the first six Text Listing pages for Group 15 completed.

Feb. 24, 2011 - Had to take a few more days off to deal with normal life.

Got Group 15 Text Listing page 7 and 8 completed.

Feb. 25, 2011 - I finished up the remaining seven Text Listing pages for Group 15...which brings us to another milestone:

ALL ORIGINAL MPC ILLUSTRATION AND TEXT PAGES ARE NOW COMPLETE!

As of today, this MPC consists of a total of 495 pages!

I do still have quite a bit more to complete, though. There are two more add-on sections that I'll be getting started on, as stated in the Feb. 13 update. And of course I still need to complete the numerical listings, as well as linking everything together.

However, this MPC is now complete enough to be useable, by including every part number and exploded-view diagram as originally published!

Feb. 27, 2011 - I spend some time yesterday getting started on scanning the Group 3.725 Rochester Carburetor Chart section, getting the first 20 pages scanned. Today I got the first nine HTML pages completed, as well as the new Group 3.725 Index built.

Feb. 28, 2011 - Got Group 3.275 Chart 20 completed.

March 2, 2011 - I've instituted a Google Site Search for this MPC. This search will ONLY crawl the MPC pages, not the rest of the OLDSmobility.com website. As I type this update, I notice that not all pages have  yet been crawled by Google, and thus some searches for a valid part number might turn up with the "No Results Found" error message. It's not because the part number isn't shown here on this MPC, but because the page simply hasn't been recognized yet. I'm working on getting Google to continue to crawl the pages here to get them indexed.

March 3, 2011 - Got Group 3.275 Chart 22 completed.

March 4, 2011 - Got Group 3.275 Charts 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 and 34 completed.

March 5, 2011 - Got Group 3.275 Charts 36, 38, 40 and 42 completed.

March 6, 2011 - Got Group 3.275 Charts 44, 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 56 and 58 completed.

March 11, 2011 - Finished up with the remaining three charts for Group 3.275. This section is now complete!
